![]() The audience walk freely around the set engaging with a truly remarkable piece of work. It was an intense experience that I haven't been able to stop thinking about since I did it last week.A huge project that was incredible to work on, a six storey immersive theatre show with over thirty hours of audio across ninety rooms. If I lived any closer to NYC, I'd already be planning my next night at the McKittrick Hotel. It's be a great experience to do either with a partner, friends or even solo. ![]() Also just as a content warning, this show does contain nudity! If being in the presence of completely nude strangers (both male and female) and being close enough to them for them to brush by you as they're moving about a scene disturbs you, this show may not be for you! All in all I'd definitely recommend Sleep No More. ![]() If it's cold out when you go, dress in layers and check your sweaters/hoodie/etc. It's hot inside the building (my face kept sweating beneath the mask- ick!) and you're going to be running around a LOT, so I recommend comfortable shoes and light clothing. My advice is to go in with an open mind, and to dress comfortably. The theater is very maze-like and I kept finding new places I had never seen even on floors I had already visited. I spent 3 hours exploring the show, and could have easily spent 3 more hours had my feet not been killing me and the show hadn't been ready to close down for the night! I know I didn't see even half of the scenes, and I'm not even sure I made it into all of the different rooms. But it also mean that the show would be a completely different experience on repeat visits, as I'm sure it would take multiple (maybe even dozens) of visits to see everything. That makes the show both exciting and frustrating, as I was constantly wondering what all I was missing out as I decided which path to take or which person to follow. There's little to no guidance within the play, you go from room to room and from scene to scene without any direction given on where you might want to be at any given time if you want to witness key parts of the story. ![]() Because of this, you experience the scenes of the play out of order, and you miss so much as you're forced to make choices about which character to follow and which to leave behind. ![]() This production may not work for anyone who wants to experience a complete and linear story It's easy to go long periods of time without encountering an actor, and once you find one and start to follow them, it can be easy to lose them in a crowd of fellow guests as the actor runs from scene to scene. It felt like what I always imagined being inside of The Haunted Mansion when the ride isn't running would be like. Even when you're not watching a scene the rooms are fascinating to look through. Plus almost everyone around you is walking around silently wearing creepy masks! But it was fun wandering from room to room, from floor to floor, looking around. There are no jump-scares, but a lot of the incredibly intricate sets are deeply eerie, it's dark and the horror-movie soundtrack playing in the rooms is very unsettling. The experience of Sleep No More feels more akin to that of a haunted house than a play. ![]()
